Coordination Studies

The purpose of a coordination study is to insure that the protective device closest to the fault clear before upstream over-current devices trip. This provides for increased uptime for continuous operation processes and aids in troubleshooting problems.

Coordination priorities are: Employee safety #1, Device protection & Selectivity #2.

Our goal is to clear both high and low level fault currents quickly to prevent personnel injury and equipment damage, while at the same time providing the plant with dependable electrical protection. The IEEE Buff Book provides a good overview of the issues involved.
